To all my fellow students, I hope you’ve taken a well-rested break because we’re back! It’s a new year and a new term - let’s add a good semester to our list of resolutions. I’ve learned the hard way that goals need to be realistic and achievable for them to work . As someone who also spends 2 hours or more a day for transportation (shoutout to OC Transpo), I thought why not try and make the most of that free time.
Did you know that the average person spends 4 hours a day on their mobile device? While on the route to school or stuck in a Tim Hortons line, I thought I could share these 3 apps to start 2019 on a good note:
Learning how to budget is the first step in adulting. There are 2 ways to budget: the easy way or the hard way.
The hard way: Don't learn and get swamped.
The easy way:
1. Apply for scholarships and grants (read How to Finance a Free Education here)
2. Oversee your spendings with the Mint app (www.mint.com). Mint allows you to
check your spending habits, see trends on your purchases, balance your expenses and honestly makes life so much easier as a student. No more spreadsheets and colorful
sticky notes because Mint is absolutely worth a try (it's free).

Ever since I’ve started university, I've lost my knack for reading novels mostly because of time. The time it takes searching through catalogs of what may be of interest to you can be ridiculously exhausting. A few weeks ago I came across an app that creates a collection of books of your interest.
Fethir allows you to add bookshelves of some pretty cool people (I’m currently following JK Rowling and Rupi Kaur). You can explore book lists across multiple topics, authors and interests. The best part is sharing with new friends and getting inspiration from other booklists so you’re never out of ideas for something to read.
Fethir is a perfect mix of Pinterest, Instagram and Goodreads.

Save time surfing the web
Have you ever been on the web and stumbled across a really exciting page? You remind yourself not to forget the website but when you go back to find it 2 days later, it’s lost in your browser history and you have no way to find it. Your memory has failed you terribly. Welcome to my world. If you have short term memory like I do and tend to forget things everytime you blink, Pocket is just the app for you.
Capture news articles, essays, videos into your Pocket and access it anywhere on any browser. If
you find an interesting video on your phone, save into your Pocket and access it through any
device. Pocket is hands down the best app for what it does. https://getpocket.com/a/queue/
Comment with what your goals are for 2019, looking forward to hearing from you all.
Best,
